SSA Global Coordinator

I have been a Schlumberger spouse since twenty-four years. We have moved around for the first twelve years in different locations till we decided that it was time to settle down with our two growing up boys. We are living in Paris for the last twelve years enjoying this beautiful city full of life, lights and activities.

I am Lebanese/French married to Nabil Mazzawi and mother of Aziz (1st year of Business school) and Ziad (last year of high school and starting engineering school from next September).

My first experience with SSA started twelve years ago when we moved to Paris and I was welcomed by some compassionate SSA members. I felt that I had friends which I can count on in emergency cases.

Eight years after that, I was encouraged to apply for the position of SSA Paris Coordinator. It was not easy for me to make this first step, as we may think that the others could do a better job than us. However, I thought that we are lucky having the SSA to take care of us, so why not to put a little bit back?

After that, I became the SSA Europe/Russia Area Coordinator where I spent 2 years dealing with the chapters in this area, sharing their concerns and success stories and providing them the support of the SSA Global Board. It’s a very nice feeling to know that you are helping the others, giving them your support and contributing in the success of our organization

Thanks to Deysy and Karen who encouraged me to apply to the Global Coordinator position. Thanks to the SSA Global Board, they are here to support me in my role and to support you as well. I am counting on their support and on your support to keep the main objective of SSA: welcoming the spouses/partners of all Schlumberger employees with a lot of compassion and friendship.

Please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me or with any Global board member and share with us your ideas or concerns. We would be extremely happy if you ask our help to start a SSA chapter in your location or eventually become the SSA contact name for your location, or volunteer on the SSA local board. Remember that the SSA is run by you and for you.

Dear friends: I have been a Schlumberger Spouse since 1998. I am Venezuelan, married to Jesus Lamas, who is Venezuelan too, and who works for Drilling and Measurement as Sales Manager for VTT. I have two children: Andreina (9) and Oscar (2), she is Venezuelan and he is Mexican. We have lived in many different countries since my husband started this enjoyable journey. I realized how important the SSA is when we moved to Lafayette, Louisiana (United States of America), with me saying almost nothing in English, and meeting there lots of people willing to help me. I was so relieved knowing they were there for me. I applied for this position and accepted it because I truly believe in the importance that our organization has and the meaning of this for many people all over the world. Accepting this position represents for me a huge challenge. I have met two wonderful women who have left their mark on our organization: Sandra Luckett and Karen Costelloe, we should be so grateful for everything they and their teams have done for us. Although in different ways, Sandra and Karen led the organization with the same main idea: back to the basics and being compassionate, which means that we cannot forget what is like to be in a new location, and the happiness that fills our hearts when we meet somebody to give us a hand in a completely new place. Recently, a new friend told me she knew I am going to leave my own mark too, and I hope I can, but I cannot do it without your help and support. Remember, I am here for each one of you, and you can count on me at any time, but I am counting on you to help me spread the importance of the SSA in every single location of Schlumberger, no matter how big or small it is. We have a wonderful team who is there for you and needs your support; remember you are welcome to share your ideas and concerns to your area coordinator, but also remember you can email me or call me when you need to. Estimados amigos y amigas: He sido una Esposa Schlumberger desde 1998. Soy venezolana, casada con Jesús Lamas quien también es venezolano, y trabaja para Drilling and Measurement como Gerente de Ventas para VTT. Tengo dos hijos: Andreina (9) y Oscar (2), ella es venezolana y el es mexicano. Hemos vivido en diferentes países desde que mi esposo comenzó este fabuloso viaje. Entendí lo importante de la SSA cuando nos mudamos a Lafayette, Louisiana (Estados Unidos): yo sin poder decir casi nada en inglés pero conociendo allí mucha gente con ganas de ayudarme. Fue realmente un alivio saber que ellos estaban allí por mi. Apliqué para esta posición y la acepté porque creo profundamente en la importancia y el significado que esta organización tiene para mucha gente en todo el mundo. Aceptar esta posición representa un gran reto para mí. He conocido dos mujeres maravillosas quienes han dejado su huella en nuestra organización: Sandra Luckett y Karen Costelloe; debemos estar agradecidos por todo lo que ellas y sus equipos han logrado para nosotros. Aunque de diferentes maneras, Sandra y Karen lideraron la organización con la misma idea: volver a lo esencial y ser compasivos, lo que significa que no podemos olvidar lo que es llegar a una nueva locación, así como la alegría que embarga nuestros corazones cuando conocemos a alguien que nos ofrece una mano en ese nuevo lugar. Recientemente, una nueva amiga me dijo que ella sabía que yo también dejaría mi propia huella, y yo espero que así sea, pero no puedo hacer eso sin tu ayuda y apoyo. Recuerden, estoy aquí por cada uno de ustedes, y pueden contar conmigo en cualquier momento, pero yo también cuento con ustedes para ayudarme a transmitir la importancia de la SSA en cada locación de Schlumberger, sin importar cuan grande o pequeña sea. Tenemos un equipo maravilloso que está allí por ti y necesita tu ayuda y apoyo. Global Communications Coordinator

As Marketing and Communication consultant with Prunelli Conseils, a company she created in 2003, Yaël creates and implements new communications tools designed to bring technical or marketing information to customers or sales teams alike. She holds a Doctorate in Physiology and a Master in Marketing and Business Science. Yaël has more than 10 years of experience in Sales and Marketing. Prior to starting her consulting business - a decision she made in order to follow her husband Gilles (currently NGA Geomarket Completions Operations Manager) - she held the position of Personal Care Marketing Director of a leading raw material supplier to the cosmetic industry. Her varied background in Marketing and Biological Science provided the perfect foundation for free lance writing and editing of articles, training material or other communication tools for various industries. Yaël and Gilles are both French. Married in May 2003, they do not have children. When not in Lagos, Nigeria where they have been transferred in August 2008, they relax in their house in Corsica or enjoy the beautiful landscapes and wildlife of the African continent. *As Web Content Editor, Yaël will use her web publishing and editorial experience in a multitude of ways to help the SSA to communicate and share resources with our members and within Schlumberger.

Hello, my name is Vidya Javalagi.  Although I have been a Schlumberger Spouse since 1996, I was unaware of the SSA.  It was during our first assignment in 2006 that I was introduced to the SSA and some of the incredible people that make up our association.  I remember browsing the SSAfara website and being impressed with all the useful information one could find, especially when you are headed out to a new part of the world.  Great Work & Thank You!!

About me: I am from India and pretty much grew up in the southern city of Bangalore.  My husband Mohan Javalagi, also from India, is from Pune which is about 180 kms east of Mumbai.  We have two daughters, Puja who is 11 years old and Veda, who is five years old.  We have recently moved to join Mohan in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia and settled in to our “new” life here.

This is the first time I have been involved in the SSA.  I am honored to have been given an opportunity to work with a very dedicated and experienced team.  I look forward to an exciting time ahead.
