HI EVERYONE
HI EVERYONE!
I am always surprised by how quickly a year can pass
and 2003 proved to be no exception! The SSAfara Magazine editorial team
is now welcoming contributions for 2004.
The response to last year's SSAfara Magazine
was truly amazing! The outpouring of enthusiasm, encouragement, appreciation and
enjoyment expressed in so many messages was a thrill for the editorial team and
I extend those votes of confidence to every individual that made a contribution.
Thanks to your efforts, the magazine was a huge success! Of course, that means
we have some high expectations to live up to this year!
I just wanted to take this opportunity to share with
you a few of the comments we received.
'Fresh and dynamic' - Jacqueline Barbosa
(Bangkok, Thailand)
'It is super!' - Veronika Hussenet (Douala, Cameroon)
'Wonderful issue and looks very professional' - Iin Wibisono
'It looks fabulous and all the ladies were avidly reading when last I saw
them' - Paula Edwards (Muscat, Oman)
'Absolutely fantastic' - Christiane Lloyd (Abu-Dhabi, UAE)
'Really impressive' - Nicole Leavitt (Quito, Equador)
'This particular edition is one of the best' - Glenys Claverie (Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia)
'It looked good enough to read and sure enough, it was!' - Lorraine
Gibbons (Perth, Australia)
'The content was superb, varied and so many people contributed. It was a good
read' - Karen Ellis (Dubai, UAE)
'It's amazing!' - Julia Penido (Sugar Land, USA)
'It looks great and has many interesting articles!' - Gill Gordon (SLB
Director of Personnel, North and Central Europe)
'You've managed to give the SSAfara magazine a whole new lease of life and
transform it into a publication which is eye-catching, informative,
entertaining, thought-provoking and even uplifting - no mean feat!' -
Frances Earnshaw (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
'The 2003 SSAFARA turned out great!' - Diane Davis (Denver, USA)
It was terrific to be involved with a publication
that was so well received. Of course, we want the same for 2004, so please
take note of the information below before sending us your articles and pictures
- it really makes a huge job a lot easier if all the information we receive is
consistent!
A NEW THEME...WHAT ARE WE?
DYNAMIC!
Dynamic: Of motive force; of force in actual
operation; active, potent, energetic; energising or motive force.
The 2004 SSAfara Magazine will have the theme
'Dynamic' because the editorial team has decided that's just what members
of the SSA are! We are looking for you to interpret the theme in whatever way
you see fit - the more creative, the more interesting! The SSA is a dynamic and
continually changing association; the lives we lead are dynamic; the countries
we live in are too. Play with the theme. Twist it a little. Make things
interesting!
THE DEADLINE
The deadline for submissions to the SSAfara
Magazine is March 12, 2004.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Submissions can be made in a number of ways. The
most convenient way is to email your submission to magazine@ssafara.net.
We will also accept IBM disks, CD-ROMs or Zip Disks, as well as originals of
artwork by regular mail. The mailing address is:

When sending your articles, please save them as a Microsoft
Word document and forward as an attachment. Include the title
of your article in the subject line of the email. Please do not forget to
include your full name, SSA Chapter and country of location in the email.
We cannot return anything sent to us and cannot be
held responsible for anything that doesn't arrive or arrives damaged.
HELPFUL HINTS REGARDING PICTURES
Please ensure that with every photograph you send,
you include a caption! Let us know where and when the event
took place, and to whom all those happy faces in the pictures belong! Please
ensure that everyone's name is spelt correctly.
When you are sending digital images, the most
important thing to remember is resolution! This may sound complicated but
it really isn't! When you are taking pictures for the magazine, a good
rule-of-thumb is to set the camera to a 'high-resolution' setting or a
resolution of 1,600 x 1,200 pixels or greater. Your camera manual will
tell you how to do this. We do want to use all the photographs received, so
please check your camera's resolution settings.
Please also consider sending photographs that are
different to group shots. While we love to see all your smiling faces, it's also
great to see people doing something! Keep in mind that many of the people who
read the magazine may not have visited your 'home' country before, so we are
also interested in seeing something of the place in which you live! Be as
creative as you wish.
On behalf of the editorial team, I thank you for
past contributions and look forward to more exciting stories from you all soon!
