October 13, 2005 (Healthy Living) - AVIAN FLU or BIRD FLU - AVIAN FLU or BIRD FLU - Health officials around the world remain on high alert and fear that inter-human transmission of Bird Flu is just a question of time. This month there have been 20 reported cases in Indonesia with six deaths (3 confirmed by WHO). It seems that these cases were transmitted by birds located in the Jakarta zoo. To date there have been over 110 human cases of avian flu (H5N1) in Asia resulting in over 60 deaths. Transmission of Bird Flu has ALWAYS been from the animal to man and most of the cases have been reported in rural areas where animals are raised or handled. No travel restrictions but it is recommended to avoid contact with live animals (chickens, ducks and pigs) in rural areas, farms and in market places and to wash hands regularly and particularly before meals. There is no vaccination against the Avian Flu available today. Download the Bird Flu Alert poster

September 25, 2005, Sunday 4:45 am (Schlumberger Hurricane Planning Team) - Returning to Houston - Hurricane Rita has essentially left the area and fortunately none of the Houston/Sugar Land/Rosharon facilities suffered any major damage. The decision has been made by the Management team that all Houston/Sugar Land/Rosharon facilities will re-open for business on Tuesday, Sept 27th. This decision, to delay opening from Monday, is necessary for many reasons including personnel relocating, card access, building security, network resources, and overall compliance to the wishes of local authorities who have asked businesses to seriously consider not asking employees to return on Monday. All employees who did not evacuate and can safely get in to work Tuesday should do so. Those who evacuated and those who live in areas with major damage should plan on returning to work in accordance with the directives of their local authorities. They are asked to notify their direct supervisors if they will be absent from work Tuesday. If you have not called the employee information line yet to update them with your status (even if you didn't evacuate), please do so @ 800-961-6625. Please be prepared to provide the following information:
