"Remote Locations" is defined as geographical coefficient of 1.4 and above. Spouses eligibile for internal access are:

Spouses of Schlumberger Contractors, Students or Retirees are not eligible for the services.

The SSAfara.net email service is accessible through any Internet Service Provider (ISP) using any Web browser.

Benefits of the service include; Ability to retrieve SSA mail from high-speed Internet services such as DSL or Cable modems, never a need to change spouse's email address when relocating, virus filtering on the mail server, and free Eudora 5.1 email software.

Personnel approval is not required.

Schlumberger License Agreement
Schlumberger has purchased a pool of licenses for the anti-virus protection software McAfee VirusScan for use on employees' home computers. Schlumberger grants you the right-to-use of the licensed product under the following conditions

that you are currently the spouse of a Schlumberger employee

that you install the licensed product only on a PC you own and that is used to access SSAfara.net

that you only connect to SSAfara.net with a PC that has up-to-date and activated anti-virus protection

that you uninstall the licensed product should you either no longer be the spouse of a Schlumberger employee or should the PC's ownership change

All spouses of Schlumberger employees are eligible for following services:

This year we have undertaken several major projects to improve the technology infrastructure for spouses. We know it looks like not much is happening, since much of the progress has been happening behind the scenes with various Schlumberger entities. We’d like to give you an update on progress, since very soon you will see several major changes.

SSA Email
We are upgrading the SSA mail server. The new server is in place and ready to be configured by the Schlumberger Messaging Administration team. We ask for your patience with our very old and tired mail server a little while longer while the project is completed.

SSA Web Pages
SSA Webmaster, Melodie Beveridge, identified the new Web Content Management system which will be installed on a brand new Web server. The new server hardware is on order, and the contracts have been reviewed by a Schlumberger attorney. Melodie and her team of Web Content Editors have reviewed thousands of pages on the existing SSA website for migration to the new service. We think you will like the upcoming changes on SSAfara.net!

GINs for Spouses – Med Track
Spouses and children of high mobility Schlumberger employees are eligible for periodic health assessments, called Med Track. These assessments are managed by International SOS (Paris, France), and are highly recommended for the spouses and children of Schlumberger employees embarking on an overseas assignment. Today, spouses who undertake a Med Track exam share a medical record with their employee partner, because only employees have a GIN. A GIN is a unique number assigned to employees in the Corporate Directory, which is what International SOS uses to organize the medical records. We have been working this year with International SOS and various technical entities in Schlumberger to implement GIN Numbers for spouses. As a result, all spouses in the SSA Directory will also have a unique GIN number, allowing each spouse eligible for a Med Track to have her (or his) own separate medical record with International SOS.

SSA Directory
Each of the above projects relies on one additional and very important project, the migration of the SSA Directory to the Schlumberger Corporate Directory. Moving the SSA Directory under the Schlumberger technical umbrella will enable spouse members to have access to resources never before available, such as individual medical records for mobile dependents, access to Schlumberger Country Risk information, and critical Health and Safety information on Schlumberger’s Health Hub. The SSA Directory project is now underway, and we hope you will help by ensuring that your own information is up to date on the SSA Directory.

• When a Schlumberger employee retires, the associated spouse account will be expired. Spouse may opt to obtain an email account from an ISP in order to continue communication with the SSA group
• Death of employee or spouse (account may be extended for six months, at request of Personnel)
• Change of marital status (on request of employee)
• Violation of Spouse Internet Access Agreement or Electronic Communication Policy
• After 6 months of inactivity
• At the request of Schlumberger

SpouseConnect has partnered with Worldwide Dialup to offer the spouses of Schlumberger Employees a global dialup solution with iPass. The same offer applies to Schlumberger Retirees.

Worldwide Dialup provides the iPass service, global Internet roaming that connects you to the Internet – with local connectivity – from more than 19,000 access points in over 140 countries.

Worldwide Dialup will waive the $20 setup fee for Schlumberger spouses and retirees. In addition, the monthly maintenance fee, which is only charged in months when there is no roaming activity on the account, has been reduced from $2.50 to $1.50 per user. If you choose to participate in the service, your credit card will be verified (via authorization to the card for $1.00US - one US dollar), and you will be responsible for the Worldwide Dialup fees and usage charges.
