    1. What is the SSA Directory? - Top

The SSA Directory is a fast, easy way for members of the Schlumberger Spouses Association (SSA) to locate one another. Because it is an online source for names, locations, phone numbers, etc., you can access the information from a Web browser or a supported mail client such as Eudora. Currently the Directory uses the LDAP protocol to send and retrieve information to and from the Directory. LDAP stands for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, and should not be confused with the database of Directory information.

The SSA Directory is considered self serve, that is, you are required to maintain the accuracy of your personal information in the Directory. Only a few restricted pieces of information are managed by Schlumberger. - Updated: June 6, 2008

    2. Is the SSA Directory being added to the Schlumberger Corporate Directory? - Top

Yes. The SSA Directory was moved into the Corporate directory July 15, 2008, but as a separate backend database. It will not be fully integrated into the Corporate Directory. This means:

    • SSA members will have access to only the SSA Directory

    • Schlumberger employees will have access to view both the Corporate Directory and the SSA Directories

    • SSA VIP members (Global Board members, etc) will have access to both Schlumberger and SSA Directories

    • Members of the SSA with an SSA Directory account will have access to important internal Schlumberger information, such as the Health Hub, Country Risk information, and emergency notices through the Schlumberger Secure Gateway.

    3. Why do I need an SSA Directory Record? - Top

The SSA Directory Record is one of the main tools used to communicate at a global level. It contains your email address that can be used for:

    • Chapter newsletter emailings

    • Messages from SSA Global Board

    • Important SSA Family Health and Safety notices

    • Safety and Security updates from Schlumberger

    - Updated: May 28, 2008

    4. Who is in the SSA Directory? - Top

All spouses/partners of Schlumberger employees are eligible to be members of SSA. All SSA members need to register in the SSA Directory. - Updated: May 28, 2008

    5. How is my personal information added and updated? - Top

Schlumberger will create your directory record when your spouse or partner (the Schlumberger employee) joins Schlumberger and you request for your record to be activated as an SSA member. This record will be automatically deleted when your spouse or partner leaves the company. In between, you are responsible for keeping the information in your record accurate and up-to-date.

Your SSA Directory information is stored in a record that has multiple attributes. To update your record (fill in or change attributes such as phone number, SSA job title, or address), you must use the Web update form. This is the only option for updates. There are a few attributes in your record that you cannot change without help from a special Directory Administrator. Refer to the Directory Experts help page for information.

    6. Is the directory the same thing as the email server? - Top

Although the directory interacts with the email server, they are two different services.

Your SSA directory account and email accounts do share a password.
    - Updated: June 6, 2008

    7. How important is it that I keep my SSA Directory information up-to-date? - Top

It is very important to keep your SSA Directory record up-to-date. Several reasons including:

    • Updated email address:

      • Communication from SSA Global Board

      • Communication from your local SSA chapter

      • Emergency alerts from SSA and Schlumberger

    • Updated location & phone number:

      • Allows members to stay in contact with each other as they move around the world

      • Allows SSA and Schlumberger to know who is where in case of emergency situations such as a natural disaster or evacuation.

      • Allows visiting members to contact local members while in town

    • Updated SSA organisation information

      • Makes sure you receive your chapter's newsletters and announcements

      • Current job title allows mobile members to find the Chapter Board members when they are traveling or relocating

    • Updated home & family details

      • Very important in emergency situations because it allows SSA and Schlumberger to know about children, pets and extended family members in the event of a natural disaster or evacuation.

      8. How do I update my SSA Directory record? - Top

The SSA Directory and Mail migration project includes a process for you to update your own SSA directory record, but we are waiting for a security process to be finalized. when this is completed (time TBA), you will be able to update your directory record using the Web update form from the Schlumberger Secure Gateway on https://gateway.slb.com/ssa

When this service is ready it will be announced to all spouses via the website and an email.

      9. I already have an email account and don’t want an SSA email account. Can I still be included in the SSA Directory? - Top

Yes! You can list any email address in your SSA Directory record.

      - Updated: May 28, 2008

      10. Can I add an HTML link to my record? - Top

If you have your own Web page that you would like to reference in your Directory record, you can add the URL to one of your record attributes and then turn that into an active link.

Open your record using the Web form.
      Go to the other attribute.
Add the URL inside the standard HTML anchor tag, as illustrated in the following example:
      Homepage

In this example, the word Homepage will appear underlined in blue, and when you click on that word, your HTML browser will jump you to the URL address specified in the anchor.

NOTE: When you enter the HTML anchor tag, do not split the href=http://... string across two lines in an attribute field. The string must be on one line. We also suggest keeping the words to be linked (underlined and in blue) on one line. So for the previous example, the anchor might appear as:

      href="http://www.clamart.srpc.slb.com"/~smith/homepage.html>
      Homepage

      11. Directory Experts - How to find help - Top

Most of the time, you'll be updating the information in your directory record by yourself,
using the Web update form. In some cases you may want help from a designated Schlumberger spouse who can help you to update your records. Additionally, there are a few attributes that can only be changed by a directory administrative expert. The following list defines the those directory roles and links
you to a locator page for finding the expert nearest you:

      • SSA Directory Champion - An SSA member who can assist oter members with existing records. A Champion can modify any attribute that a user can. Therefore a Champion can reset a password for someone who has forgotten it. If you need help modifying attributes in your record, contact a directory Champion.
      • SSA Support - SSA Support staff member who can reset your directory password if you forget what it is. The process of resetting a password by the help desk causes a record to be "tainted". Some applications may not grant access to users who have a tainted record. If you need to reset a password because you forgot what it is, contact the SSA Support desk.
      • HRmaintainer - HRmaintainers can modify certain restricted attributes. They can also delete old records. If you think you need a record deleted (because it is a duplicate or because an employee left the company), contact a directory Administrator.
